Medical Visa Turkey 2026: Rules, Documents and Permits
The medical visa turkey guide from official sources: who is already exempt, why the e-Visa will not cover treatment, and the treatment permit.
Turkey's e-Visa covers tourism and commerce only, Gulf nationals are visa-exempt for 90 days, and treatment running longer moves the patient onto a short-term treatment residence permit.
| Item | What the official source states |
|---|---|
| e-Visa | Valid for tourism or commerce only |
| Saudi, UAE, Oman, Bahrain | Exempt 90 days in any 180-day period |
| Qatar and Jordan | Exempt 90 days within six months of first entry |
| Kuwait | Exempt 90 days within the last 180 days |
| Under 90 days | No residence permit needed with a valid visa |
| Over 90 days | Short-term treatment residence permit, by duration of treatment |
| Hospital condition | Must be admitted to a public or private hospital |
| Health insurance | Not required where treatment costs are certified as paid |

What is a medical visa for Turkey and when do you actually need one?
A medical visa turkey applicants ask about is the visa issued by Turkish consulates for the purpose of receiving treatment, and for most Gulf patients it is not the first step at all. Nationals of most Gulf states are already visa-exempt for 90 days, enter on that exemption and receive treatment without any visa. A separate formal route only begins when treatment runs past that limit.
The practical rule is therefore three cases rather than one: exemption for those it covers, a consular visa for those it does not, and a treatment residence permit for anyone whose treatment exceeds 90 days.
Which nationalities enter Turkey without a visa?
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs sets exemptions by nationality and passport type, and sometimes by age. This is the canonical table for this article, read live on 22 September 2026:
| Country | What the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs states |
|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | Exempt up to 90 days in any 180-day period, ordinary and official passports |
| United Arab Emirates | Exempt up to 90 days in any 180-day period, ordinary and official passports |
| Oman | Exempt up to 90 days in any 180-day period, ordinary and official passports |
| Bahrain | Exempt up to 90 days in any 180-day period, ordinary passports |
| Qatar | Exempt up to 90 days within six months from first entry |
| Kuwait | Exempt up to 90 days within the last 180 days |
| Jordan | Exempt up to 90 days within six months from first entry |
| Egypt | Official passports exempt; ordinary passports under 15 or over 45 exempt 90 days in any 180 |
| Algeria | Official passports exempt; ordinary passports under 15 or over 50 exempt 90 days in any 180 |

The documents in a Turkey medical visa file, filed at an embassy or consulate rather than through the e-Visa system.
How do I get a medical visa, and why the e-Visa will not do
This is the most common mistake. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states plainly that the e-Visa covers a limited purpose: "e-visa is only valid when the purpose of travel is tourism or commerce. For other purposes, such as work and study, visas are given by Turkish Embassies or Consulates."
Anyone not covered by an exemption who is travelling for treatment therefore applies to a Turkish embassy or consulate rather than through the e-Visa system. The e-Visa rules themselves are set out in Turkey e-Visa requirements, and the full map of categories in the Turkey visa guide.
Documents required for a Turkey medical visa
The file is built to show the purpose is genuinely medical and the costs are covered:
- A valid passport
- A medical report setting out the condition and the procedure required
- An invitation or appointment confirmation from the hospital in Turkey
- Evidence of ability to cover treatment and accommodation costs
- Travel bookings and the intended length of stay
- Photographs to the consulate's specification
- Health insurance, unless treatment costs are certified as paid
The treatment residence permit when care runs past 90 days
A patient whose treatment outlasts the exemption or the visa moves onto the short-term residence permit for treatment, whose conditions Migration Management publishes:
| Condition | What the official source states |
|---|---|
| Public health | No disease posing a public health threat |
| Hospital | "Foreigners coming in order to receive treatment must be admitted to public or private hospitals" |
| Health insurance | Not required for those who certify that treatment expenses are paid |
| Financial means | Not required where a public institution covers accommodation, subsistence and health costs |
| Duration | The permit is issued pursuant to the duration of treatment |
That last row matters more than it looks. Insurance and proof of means, the two conditions that stall most residence files, fall away for a patient who evidences that treatment costs are met. The other categories are compared in types of residence permit in Turkey.

The e-Visa against the short-term treatment residence permit on purpose, duration, the hospital condition and the insurance waiver.
How much does a medical visa for Turkey cost?
⛔ The visa fee schedule published on the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs site is dated 2014, and no figure from it is fit to publish today. You will not find a dollar figure for a medical visa fee in this article, because printing a stale official number is worse than printing none.
What is officially certain is that the consulate sets the fee by nationality and visa type at the point of application, and that nationals of the exempt countries above pay no visa fee at all, because they never issue one.
The cost of the treatment itself has a firmer floor: the Turkish Ministry of Health's international patient tariff sets a minimum that may not be undercut, and what a quoted price should include is set out in what a medical package in Turkey covers.
How long does a Turkey visa take to process?
⛔ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes no binding timetable for deciding visa applications, so no figure in days is printed here. What is published is validity, not processing: 90 days in any 180 for exempt countries, and a treatment permit issued by the duration of treatment.
The only source-backed practical rule: never fix a surgery date against a visa you do not yet hold.
How to verify a hospital is authorised for health tourism in Turkey
This step is skipped by almost everything written on the subject, and it is the one that protects the money. The Turkish Ministry of Health publishes the lists of facilities holding the international health tourism authorisation certificate, split into four lists: hospitals, medical centres, clinics and other health facilities, with the page last updated 20 August 2026.
Before any booking or transfer, look the facility's name up in those lists. The correct selection criterion is presence on the Ministry's list, not star count or advertising spend. For choosing between facilities, see the best hospitals and clinics in Turkey.
How can I get a Turkey health visa code?
There is no separate "health visa code" issued by Turkish authorities as a standalone product. What exists is the application reference generated when you apply, whether through a consulate for a treatment visa or through the e-ikamet system for a treatment residence permit. The e-ikamet sequence is set out in the e-ikamet application steps.
Any site offering to sell you a "health visa code" separately from those two official channels is selling something the Turkish system does not issue.
For treatment running into years, those permits count towards a longer route set out in the long term residence permit in Turkey.
Book your Turkey treatment arrangements with Livist Group
What separates a smooth treatment trip from a stalled one is rarely the visa on its own. It is three things lined up together: a facility that appears on the Ministry of Health list, timing that respects the 90-day limit, and a residence file ready before the exemption runs out.
