Note Çaykara's population: 12,921 people for an entire district. Uzungöl is not a suburb of Trabzon; it is a mountain village in a rural district. Anyone booking "a cabin in Trabzon", meaning Uzungöl, and then planning dinner at Meydan every evening has planned something that does not exist.
Where to stay — the decision in five lines
- City centre (Ortahisar / Meydan): for short trips, for walking, markets and restaurants, or for day trips out and back.
- On the coast (Akçaabat and around): when the view and quiet matter more than proximity to services — with a car.
- Near the airport (Yomra): for a late arrival or a dawn departure only. Not a base.
- Uzungöl (Çaykara): two nights minimum, or the road consumes the visit. It is a destination in itself, not an extension of the city.
- Maçka: only makes sense if Sumela Monastery is the point of the trip.
The rule: do not pair a single base with an itinerary spread across distant districts. Either centre plus day trips, or split your nights between two locations.

"Licensed hotel" is not one thing in Türkiye

The Ministry publishes accommodation statistics specifically for Ministry-certified facilities — so the distinction is official, not marketing.
Why it matters: "five stars" on a booking page is not necessarily a Ministry classification. Ask the property directly whether it holds a Ministry tourism operation certificate. The difference shows up in standards, complaints and accountability — not in the photographs.
Verify your agency too
If you are booking through a Turkish travel agency, the Ministry runs an official licensed-agency search (Seyahat Acentası Arama) and a separate query for agency-name application results. Searching the agency name in the official tool takes a minute and answers a question no advertising page will.
Cabins and bungalows: four questions before you pay
"Trabzon cabins" and "Uzungöl cabins" are heavily searched, and these are usually small properties rather than classified hotels. Ask before booking:
- Which district exactly? (not just "Trabzon")
- Is the access road paved and passable by an ordinary car in winter?
- What is the licence status — Ministry certificate or municipal licence?
- Are heating and hot water guaranteed outside the season?
