The most-upvoted Istanbul airport question on Reddit is some version of "what's the easiest way into the city without getting ripped off?" — and the answer is published, in full, on the airport's own site. The price differences between taxi colours are not driver discretion. They are a regulated tariff, set by UKOME, Istanbul's transport coordination authority, and the percentages are printed.
The taxi tariff, in percentages
Istanbul Airport's taxi service runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and uses three categories:

The airport explains why the tiers exist: to meet demand for more trunk space, greater passenger capacity (8+1), expanded legroom and similar features, UKOME established separate pricing tariffs for the turquoise and black upper-segment taxis, to improve service quality and promote zero-emission vehicles. Taxis affiliated with the Istanbul Airport Cab Drivers Cooperative adhere to the taximeter tariff regulated by UKOME.
So the practical read: if a black taxi costs noticeably more than an orange one, that is the tariff working as designed — not an overcharge. What would be an overcharge is a fare that does not run on the taximeter at all.
The extras that are legitimately added
This is where most "I got ripped off" stories actually originate, and the airport publishes the rule plainly:
- Bridge tolls, bus terminal exit fees and toll road charges are collected from the customer, on top of the metered fare.
- Crossing to the Anatolian side via the Eurasia Tunnel carries a specific quirk: the passenger also pays the toll for either the 15 July Martyrs Bridge or the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, to cover the taxi's return trip to the Anatolian side — in addition to the Eurasia Tunnel toll.
Knowing that second rule before you get in the car is the difference between an expected line on the fare and an argument at the destination.

Main stands are at the Domestic and International Passenger exit doors in the Plaza Section, and vehicles are also available on the departure floor (2nd floor). For pick-up and drop-off, all three categories — black, turquoise and orange — use the Arrivals floor at the 9th and 13th exit gates.

The airport's published coach operator is Havaist, running 11 different routes between the airport and the city centre. The mechanics:

Havaist operates accessible midibuses, and the airport publishes the advance-notice windows explicitly:
- From the airport to the city: submit the request at the Havaist counters on the transportation floor at least 1 hour in advance, specifying the route.
- From the city to the airport: submit the request through Havaist's channels at least 6 hours in advance, specifying route and pick-up point.
Rail and public buses
